Editorial policy

The rules this desk works to, published so readers can hold us to them. They cover sourcing, attribution, corrections, neutrality and medical content.

Sourcing and attribution

Every factual statement links to at least one source. If we cannot attribute something, we do not publish it as fact. Headlines are stored verbatim because they are facts about what an outlet published; our summaries are written by us and are clearly separate from the source material.

We never reproduce a paragraph from an outlet. Summaries are capped at 320 characters; verbatim quotations are capped at 240, appear inside quotation marks, and always name the speaker and their role.

No image is used unless we own it. Illustrations on this site are our own vector artwork.

Neutrality

We take no position on governments, elections, sanctions or military matters, and we do not characterise the motives of any government, agency or outlet. Official statements are reported as facts about what was said. When accounts conflict, both appear with equal visual weight and no ordering that implies a winner.

We do not describe the people of any country with adjectives. We do not use language that implies an outcome before the evidence is in.

Corrections

Send a correction, with a source, to editor@pneumonicplague.news. Substantive corrections are applied to the item itself and noted on it; we do not delete items to hide an error. If a correction changes a claim verdict, the verdict is re-checked against all its listed sources rather than patched.

Medical content

Symptom, transmission and treatment material is general education, cites WHO or CDC material, and carries a disclaimer everywhere it appears. We do not tell readers to take or avoid any drug. Our polls never ask a medical question that is not settled, and never imply that a reader's answer is correct except in the knowledge quiz, which only uses facts sourced to WHO or CDC.

Not medical adviceThis is general education, cited to WHO and CDC material. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment plan, and it does not replace assessment by a clinician. If you are unwell, contact a medical professional.

Polls and votes

Every vote is one click from one visitor, deduplicated with a first-party cookie. There is no account, no email and no personal data. Polls are unscientific samples, they are open to organised voting, and they are labelled as such everywhere they appear. Results are shown after voting, and published in full at /polls/.
